Winter Maintenance Tips

If you live in an area that is prone to ice and snow, we recommend you consider winter tires that are designed to grip the icy pavement. Also, make sure you check your tires weekly for recommended tire pressure and proper tread. Replace the tires if they are worn.

It is important to test your battery and make sure that all the cables and terminals are free from corrosion. Ask a mechanic to check the battery if it is more than 3 years old.

Do not forget to check your brake pads for wear and tear. If your brake pads are thin, it means they are worn down, so your stopping distance is longer, which makes driving more dangerous.

We recommend you replace your worn windshield wipers because snow and salt are prevalent in winter weather. You should replace wipers if they look brittle, dry, or if they leave streaks of liquid on your windshield.

Winter blend is essential before winter weather hits. It is made specifically to improve windshield clearing in snowy and icy conditions. Therefore, make sure you change washer fluid to winter-blend before winter comes.

First, turn your defroster and heater on and off to make sure they work correctly. If your vehicle has seat warmers and steering wheel warmers, you need to check them too.

Engine coolant, also known as antifreeze, stops water in the engine from freezing during cold days. It also helps increase the boiling point of the engine, which prevents its overheating.

In winter weather, such materials as glass and metal become more brittle. Therefore, if there are any chips or cracks in your windshield, they will probably expand in winter climates. For this reason, you need to have a windshield inspection to make sure there are no chips or cracks. If there are, make sure you replace or repair the damaged windshield.

Make sure you put some extra winter gear in your car, including footwear, warm socks, gloves, and a sweater. Your kit should also include water, blankets, a flashlight, and a first aid kit.
